Fascism

Published by Michael under Politics

BIG FAT EDIT: After writing this post, I’ve found out that the same Laurence Britt who wrote the essay on fascism which I excerpted also wrote a dystopian political novel entitled “June 2004″, about a future America dominated by right-wing extremists.
In my mind this makes him much less trustworthy as a scholarly critic of systems [...]

Politics, Abortion, Idiocy

Published by Kara under Politics, Rants

I just read an article in the Washington Post about Barack Obama’s position on abortion.  But it’s not his political positioning I want to talk about, rather I take issue with the way this article paints Obama and the democratic party’s views on abortion (because, somehow, there is such a thing).
I want to preface my [...]

An Open Letter to Americans Everywhere

Published by Kara under Politics

Hi.  How you doing?  I know, this recession sure is taking a toll on my paycheck.  Have you seen the cost of gas lately?  The dollar is dropping in value like crazy.
Oh, about this article.  I know there are probably a lot of you out there who support McCain and Rep. Coburn.
I think we need [...]

Abortion and 4 months, 3 weeks and 2 days

Published by Kara under Politics, Rants

Upon looking for reviews of the movie 4 luni, 3 săptămâni şi 2 zile (4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days), I find that it has been adopted by the film-goers of the pro-life (hate this vocabulary) crowd as a movie against abortion.
It’s interesting to me that anyone can watch a movie with an agenda [...]

Another Idiot in Charge of Millions of your Tax Moneys

Published by Kara under Health, Politics

Bush has appointed someone to oversee Federal Family Planning Programs at the Department of Health and Human Services.  If you know anything about this administration, you have a pretty good idea what that means.  Let me linky to an article wherein they pull some absurd quotes.  Let me remind you, this woman is in charge [...]

Healthcare (again)

Published by Kara under Politics, Rants

My wallet was delivered!  I can hardly wait to come home to its canvas-y goodness.  Hopefully they left it at the door, because if it’s at the office, I won’t get it until Friday or Saturday at the earliest.
In the daycare here, they take care of very young (read, less than 6 months old) babies.  [...]

Two Rants in One Entry

Published by Kara under Politics, Sad

By now, I think most readers have figured out I tend to peruse news sites with some pretty severe liberal leanings.  It’s not that I feel as if I’m getting more truth there, just a different truth.  They cover different issues.  I still read through the AP news every day, mostly to feel connected, in [...]

Political Rant # 345271

Published by Kara under Politics, Rants

Discussing politics at work should be an offense punished by catapult.
I’ve been kept on for another week or two at this position, but they have no office space for me, so they put me in the kitchen. If it sounds lame, it was (although today the big boss isn’t in, so I get to [...]

The lady doth protest too much, methinks.

Published by Kara under Politics, Rants

Received in an email:
“Awesome Senior Moment
Here’s a quote from a government employee who witnessed a recent interaction between an elderly woman and an antiwar protester in a Metro station in DC
There were protesters on the train platform handing out pamphlets on the evils of America. I politely declined to take one.  An elderly woman was behind me getting [...]
