Michael Phelps
I am sick of everyone talking about Michael Phelps taking a bong hit. I am sick of it because of the inevitable posturing that comes along with everyone acting like marijuana is evil, or that most people have never done it.
My estimate of people who’ve smoked marijuana ever in their lives is probably between 60-70% of the population, much higher for people in my peer group. Yet, most people are functioning adults. SHOCK. SURPRISE. AWE. The Beatles put out some hit records, Phelps won a shitload of gold medals, and we can go on and on about respected authors, musicians and yes, athletes who’ve smoked marijuana and been successes, by anyone’s standards.
So screw you, media. And screw parents who don’t have the sense to tell their kids: lots of people smoke weed, but that doesn’t mean you should, it doesn’t mean there aren’t consequences if you choose to, and it certainly doesn’t mean you can do it under my damn roof. Weed doesn’t destroy most people’s lives, it won’t prevent you from doing a damn thing unless you get caught- in which case look forward to your government screwing you over for something most people have done. A very real consequence, of course.
Both the current president (and at least two former ones) and perhaps the greatest athlete of our time have smoked pot. Q.E.D. It’s OK.
Conservative bullcrap. I hit a joint or two sometimes – and I’m NOT an irresponsible person… makes me love being European. Meh.
