Slim-Fast After Week 8

Plateau, my arch-nemesis.

As of this Friday, Michael and I will have been on Slim-Fast for two full months. I am holding steady at my ten pound loss.  He continues to lose weight because he is an evil human being. Robert Johnson pledged the devil his soul in return for incredible guitar slinging skills. Michael pledged the devil his soul in return for losing weight more quickly than me. Who made the better deal? It remains to be seen.

My weight appears to coincide directly with my period. I get my period, I lose 5 pounds. Afterwards, I sit on the same weight for three weeks. I don’t know if this is a common experience for most pre-menopausal, non-pregnant women, or if I’m just crazy. In any case, the physical component has been stepped up.  I’m getting a half hour daily, at least.  If I start getting into work on time, I can take a long walk during my lunch break, which would up my daily activity to an hour (including the half hour of wii fit). On days I don’t walk at work, I can come home and go swimming (assuming the weather cooperates).

I went swimming yesterday and was surprised by how weak my upper body has become.  I used to swim laps every other day for half an hour last year (not that I have good or even reasonable form). Yesterday I barely managed to swim any laps without getting tired.

I’m feeling pretty down on the diet right now, but we’ll see. Michael and I had kale for dinner last night and I think the bitterness of it poisoned my motivational drive.

no, that’s normal-ish. I mentioned it before to you. I actually tracked it for myself for months, and it was interesting to see that no matter HOW I ate/exercised, I would gain the week of my period and lose a big amount the week after (some of which is obviously water weight, some of which is whatever).

  2. Yeah I don’t like it either….my husband loses more weight and faster too…apparently men have an easier time loosing weight. And yes that wonderful time of the month….that extra 5lbs or so is water weight…drink water and up the exercise and it should go back to normal.

I did slim fast several years ago and had good success with it. I found what it mostly did was teach me proportions of food, amount of calories, and balance that works even when you go back to a normal diet.

    So hang in there :)

I will say thanks for blogging your adventures with slim fast, diet, etc. I came across your blog after doing a blog search for dieting/slim fast…it’s encouraging to know there’s others out there dealing with the struggles of healthy living.
