Annapolis Farmer’s Market - May 10

Published by Kara at 11:39 am under Food, Outings, Plugs

Today, Michael and I woke up at the butt-crack of rain to head out to the Farmer’s Market at Harry S Truman Parkway and Riva Road. We had a few reasons to head out:

1. To see what sort of produce they had so early in the season.

2. To find some sort of preserves or something to complete my mother’s day gift for my mom.

Radishes

We got to the Market at a bit past 8 (it opens at 7) and it was pretty crowded, even with the steady rain. We picked up some asparagus, some big green lettuce, and some radishes. They had plenty of spring onions, spring garlic, kohlrabi, turnip greens, kale, swiss chard, collard greens, and spring mixes of greens for salads.

Big Green Lettuce

There was a stand of local honey (Mr. B’s Apiaries), a few stands with sprouts and fresh herbs, a pottery stand, a few people selling flowers for planting. One woman was selling a potted peony and a moon flower vine and I wanted both, but they were expensive, and I have no where to transplant a peony or to let a moon flower climb. The pie lady was present with plenty of 8 inch and 4 inch pies - strawberry rhubarb tempted me - but she also had pecan and chocolate chip, sweet potato, cherry and various other flavors. One stand had fresh danishes and pastries, but I didn’t give it much of a look because of the diet.  Cosmic Bean had a stand setup with coffee for sampling, there were also some jewelry, housewares and cosmetics for sale at other stands.

Hot Raspberry Jelly

I did end up finishing my mother’s day present for my mom, and Michael and I picked up some strawberry jam made with local fruit and local honey from The Herbal Touch, some hot raspberry jelly from Old Orchard Herbs in addition to the produce we picked up and the mother’s day goodies.

Cayenne Pepper Plant

In the meantime, our balcony garden is doing well. Our tomatoes have exploded and both plants have flower buds, both our peppers are still alive and have white flowers! Our mammoth basil is doing quite well, too. We still have to transplant one basil and one lavender plant, but everything is alive, and seems to be productive. I have more pictures, but I don’t want to go overboard! I’ll end with a picture Michael took of all the flour from Wade’s Mill. The rolls he made the other night were great, and held up fantastically with the freezing.
