In which Michael slams the news media
Dear American news media,
Please stop using the word “slammed” all the time. I swear, every day there’s a story about somebody slamming somebody else about something. Witness Google News:
I’m not even sure I know what “slammed” means. I have never slammed anyone, nor have I ever heard another human being talk about slamming or being slammed. If I do Google web search on “slammed”, the results are all about changing people’s long distance service without their permission, as I might expect.
So, American news media, I’m pretty sure you just made this word up, at least in its current context. Every time I read it, I think, “there’s another journalist who lacks the necessary vocabulary to come up with a better word.” It’s kind of like swearing — I don’t care if you do it, but it makes you look pretty stupid.
Love,
Michael
