I have done a lot of complaining about Verizon on this blog, and since people online only seem to talk about bad experiences they’ve had with companies I feel I should balance out my rants with this: We signed up for FiOS for our home Internet connection (in the face of rising rates from Comcast) and so far everything is good. Sales and post-sale support phone personnel have been polite and competent, the installer was on time and did an excellent job, and the free router they provide is actually very good.
Verizon seems to have completely separate departments to deal with their various service offerings. I still wouldn’t touch VZW or Verizon DSL with a 40-foot pole, but FiOS is–surprisingly–OK. Also, this pretty much makes it worthwhile:

for real! we had a surprisingly painless fios dealing (I was worried after your Verizon issues!) and I am mostly happy with the service. For now.
