Since I got my amazing binoculars, I’ve been keeping my eyes open. I’m going to list some birds I have seen, but first comment on a few sightings.
Most Remarkable Sighting: Bald Eagle, seen at Lake Louise in Crofton, MD. There is no mistaking a bald eagle – they’re huge, brown wings and white heads and tails. I don’t think it nests at the lake (no really big trees), but possibly nearby on federal and state protected lands.
Most Personally Interesting Sighting: Downy Woodpecker, Crofton Country Club, Crofton, MD. I chased this one around (not literally, that would be cruel) a bit before I finally spied a female pecking a tree for five minutes or so. I’ve never actually seen a woodpecker peck wood before this moment. I think downy woodpeckers are pretty and have pretty songs. I saw a male and a female during this sighting.
Other Birds I Have Seen Recently:
Black Vultures – they congregate around Crofton Parkway and also 424.
Turkey Vulture – seen at Reidel Road and 424.
Northern Cardinals – At the Tawes Building in Annapolis; along 424 past Reidel Road, and in the neighborhood.
Eastern Phoebe – In the tree outside my apartment.
