Breaking Up is Hard to Do

I’ve been abstaining from TV for three days now, with what I guess I would call mixed results. I haven’t completely avoided the medium — Kara and I have watched two episodes of John Cleese’s documentary The Human Face, which I have on DVD, but I don’t really feel bad about that because it was something we chose to do rather than just a response to boredom. Other than that I’ve pretty much avoided the tube. I’ve read a lot, absorbed myself in Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney and Professor Layton and the Curious Village (both of which are excellent), and basically tried very hard to avoid finding anything new to do.

This is beginning to wear off, and I’m beginning to realize how very, very hard it is to break old habits. I find myself drooling over the program listings on our MythTV box:

A crossbow, people. I am missing footage of police officers chasing down a man with a crossbow. Sigh.

I guess these are the TV withdrawals. Right now I’m kind of avoiding the problem by playing DS games and reading books, but I will not let myself play games that I’ve played before, or that are repetitive, and I cannot read for six hours a day. So in my mind the more interesting part of this twisted self-experimentation is what will happen in a week or so. I guess I’ll find out.
