An Open Letter to Americans Everywhere
Hi. How you doing? I know, this recession sure is taking a toll on my paycheck. Have you seen the cost of gas lately? The dollar is dropping in value like crazy.
Oh, about this article. I know there are probably a lot of you out there who support McCain and Rep. Coburn.
I think we need to remember one thing: If we don’t pay for comprehensive sexual education, we’ll be paying for the welfare babies it creates, and the medical care for the STDs our children will end up getting. Besides – would you rather throw your money down the chute with abstinence-only sex education? We’re paying for crappy sexual education and paying for all the repercussions of teenagers engaging in sex, anyway.
This is not a complicated moral issue. It is a simple practical issue.
Let’s stop being the dunce in the corner.
Tom Coburn is a strange fellow. He’s generally antagonistic toward the legislative establishment, the congressional district in Oklahoma that repeatedly elected him to the House tends to be freethinking (and left-leaning, to some degree), and he seems to have pretty high standards of personal integrity.
On the other hand, he supports the death penalty for people who perform abortions, honestly believes that there is an insidious “gay agenda”, and in 1997 referred to NBC’s decision to broadcast Schindler’s List as “irresponsible sexual behavior” because the film contained nudity.
It just goes to show you that people can have abhorrent views without being abhorrent themselves.
Still, I do not want this man peering at my feminine bits. Especially if he’s that uncomfortable with nudity.
Looked up his record, he is, at the very least, consistent in his pro-life view. Minus the whole death penalty comment.
