Celebrity Rehab

Anyone who knows me knows I can be a little bit of a reality tv addict. Especially if it involves Flava Flav. It started with The Surreal Life and ran all the way to I Love New York 2 (Flavor of Love 3 is coming out in February). I wasn’t particularly interested in Celebrity Rehab when I first heard about it, but of course I was going to watch it.

This show blows me away. I think they focus too much on certain people’s drama but it is interesting to watch a functioning group therapy and even personal therapy. We are not often allowed access into something so intensely personal and charged, and to watch people coming to grips with how their past has impacted them and how they can change themselves to improve their future is astounding.

You can watch the hold addictions have on people, watch the way people cope with their lives being turned upside down. It’s amazing and a little depressing, but thought provoking. You can examine the relationships these people form with their loved ones.

And you’ll find yourself thinking, how can some of these people be so blind to their problems. And if you’re a reasonable person, the natural extension of that thought is, “What am I blind to?”

Maybe that thought makes you as uncomfortable as it makes some of the celebrities on this show.

Also, Dr. Drew is a good-looking man. We don’t get too many of those on reality tv.

New episodes of Celebrity Rehab are on every Thursday on VH1. Since this is VH1, they also play reruns constantly, check their schedule for more information.

Intervention is my guilty pleasure. I find myself screaming at the interventioners more than the interventionees… “For God’s sake woman, your son is freebasing in your living room!!! Look!!!!!” It’s wonderful.

I wonder if the Flava Flav thing is genetic…

Have you seen “Millionaire Matchmaker” ? I caught it the other day after Project Runway [!!] and I found myself laughing a lot at the absurdity of it all (but then I suppose my life is probably absurd to other people).

And heh! someone else mentioned Intervention this week and said the same exact thing as Dad P!
