We gave Inari a bath last night. It is somewhat disillusioning to know that statistics say she will live longer than WoDM and I will be married.
I’m a big fan of not listening to statistics – to the point of being illogical, often. I chalk it up mostly to my desire to be in control of my own life – to not follow a path mandated by statistics, by common sense, by anyone or anything. Taken to it’s logical ending, that sort of thinking places me firmly as the Underground Man Dostoyevsky created in Notes from the Underground (say what you will about Dostoyevsky, the level of complexity of thought in his works always amazes me).
The point is, no matter how much thought I give marriage, no matter how much I feel a certain way, that statistic stays the same. It feels a little stupid not to consider it, especially in light of building a life together. A life that now includes a little being completely dependent on us.
