By now, I think most readers have figured out I tend to peruse news sites with some pretty severe liberal leanings. It’s not that I feel as if I’m getting more truth there, just a different truth. They cover different issues. I still read through the AP news every day, mostly to feel connected, in a bare bones way, to the world around me. I read the liberal stuff mostly to remind myself that I don’t fit easily into that mold. That people are just as crazy on all sides of any argument.
They link, on these liberal sites, to all sorts of news-y broadcasts from Fox and MSNBC and etc, etc. I watch for general amusement. Today, it was liberals and conservatives all up in arms about Ted Nugent’s comments toward democratic presidential hopefuls. I think Ted Nugent is full of it – but why anyone cares what he has to say about politics is beyond me. The man has made his living off of shocking people and pissing people off, he’s a rockstar (and a reality TV star). His political beliefs shouldn’t matter a whit more than mine in public discourse.
But my real point is this: I can’t explain how sick I am of people saying that something is “typically conservative” or “typically liberal” or defining behaviors they perceive as negative as belonging to another group of people and treating one group as if it’s responsible for the behaviors of even the most extreme members of that group. YOU ARE ALL IDIOTS.
What really burns me up is there are Americans who watch nothing but this crap, this fake-hard-hitting-bullshit-men-yelling-at-each-other about stuff that doesn’t even matter. TED NUGENT. You idiots. Take a step back and talk about, I dunno, health care, education, preserving individual rights, something that MATTERS. This stuff wouldn’t be on tv if we didn’t want it there. If we didn’t sit there and listen to it and let it rile us all up and sit around cursing those damn conservatives or damn liberals. Take a look in the mirror. We’ve already cursed ourselves beyond all help listening to this bologna.
We can’t even have a civil discussion about politics in this country anymore because people had to go and drag god and morals into it, so people get personally offended when you don’t agree with them or try to disprove what they say, because you can’t argue with FAITH. So everyone is on the defensive and only listening to the things that support what they already believe, because that’s FAITH. They ask pointed questions, get answers that beat around the bush and then complain about how the other side can’t answer a question in straight-forward manner.
And it would all be hilarious to me, if it wasn’t such an epidemic.
In other news: cow milk is disgusting. I just watched a TV special on how they get cows pregnant every year, take their baby calves after a few days and then a machine milks them twice a day. 12 gallons a milk from one cow a day. Just watching it nauseates me. And then to hear them talk about how the animal’s welfare is of the utmost importance. The only thing they care about is making sure they get good milk from those cows and then killing them when they can’t get any more milk from them. They’re not honoring them, and they don’t care about their welfare. Just admit it. It’s cool, but come to terms with it. Stop prettying it up so we can keep feeding our children lies about how drinking milk does a body good and how we should get three servings of dairy a day. ugh.
