Hungry for Justice

Okay, so I’m writing ticked off again, after reading another article from my crazy liberal news site. The article is here. and This is a more news-y article from a local paper.

The basic argument of this article is one that I think I can agree with. I think it’s goofy to protect the rights of the unborn above the rights of someone who has already been born. I think it’s goofy to expect someone to give up their body, their energy and whatever else for a being that pretty much looks like a chicken floating in an egg. But I think the logic of that argument ends right about the place you begin defending a woman who has 4 fetal skeletons on her property, and has admitted to letting a near-fullterm infant (whatever they’re scientifically called at that point) fall into the toilet, then wrap it in a towel and throw it under the sink, without once checking to see if it was alive or to get medical attention for it.

I mean, when people do that with children - they get charged with neglect and their children are taken away from them. I’ve seen those cases, I’ve read the court reports at one of my old jobs and it is awful and depressing, especially when you see how much the children have suffered and will suffer continuously because of it.

I’m not sure if this woman should stand trial for murder - she’s obviously got some enormous psychological problems - and I’d bet her adult children do, too. But she’s also not the example you should flipping use to decry the movement for rights of the unborn.

There are a million reasons you can argue for abortion to be legal or for people to be concerned about a woman’s rights and how these laws can impinge on them. The example of the Oklahoma woman in the article might have been better - I mean, she probly shouldn’t have been doing meth if she knew she was pregnant, but god forbid the government pay for people to get the psychological help they need to deal with addiction. Or help people pay for birth control. Or even educate people on how to prevent pregnancy, especially under this administration and especially in the Midwest and South. Oklahoma’s teenage birth rates can tell you that much.

We have a lot to be mad about in terms of women’s rights in this country. A woman being charged with murder for keeping a collection of her own dead fetuses is not one of them. My crazy liberal counterparts - let it go.
