I Hate Today’s Music
I don’t know what has happened to popular music recently, but it’s not been good. At least, not in my opinion. I guess my musical tastes tend toward classic rock, and jazzy stuff with interesting melodies. I am totally perplexed by the crap other people my age (20) are listening to, and further perplexed that it seems to be devoid of musical or lyrical ingenuity. Aren’t you supposed to be old before you make these kinds of complaints about the “new music”?
I just listened to Billy Idol’s new CD, and it was the first album I’ve really, truly enjoyed in a long time. All the songs, which covered a huge range of musical styles (at least, compared to what we’ve previously heard from him), were really enjoyable. In a way, I guess it was refreshing to hear those kinds of songs on a new album. I’ve grown accustomed to buying music that was recorded before I was born.
And while I’m griping, I’d just like to say that Linkin Park is the absolute worst musical group in the history of everything ever. I mean, it’s just rotten. The only thing remotely good about anything they’ve ever done is the stuff with Jay-Z in it, and that wasn’t anything I would listen to voluntarily. If you ever really want to be musically tortured, listen to “Nobody’s Listening” from their album Meteora. I would provide an excerpt here but I live in the United States of America and I believe that is now an offense punishable by death. I really don’t know what to say about this song. It’s basically incredibly irritating shouting over a backdrop of mediocre rap and horrible music. Only worse.
I can’t wait for someone who likes Linkin Park to contradict me. As a preview, here is an incredibly insightful remark from one of their fans, which I copied from a popular music website:

I have taken the liberty of censoring this gentleman’s comments, not because I find them offensive but really because I find them aesthetically displeasing. Sort of like a Linkin Park song.
I cannot stand todays music. All you have is Rap,which doesn’t take much talent. As far as Rock goes for today I have no interest.Rock today is very bland.What ever happened to the guitar. During a classic rock song you would here a guitar by itself. The music industry is all about greed. What ever happened to songwriting and originality.Some so-called artists copy old beats and lyrics, because people will recognize it, and make them even more famous. I find myself listening to classic rock, and r&b from the 60’s,70’s and the 80’s. The kids today don;t even know what they are listening to. Its a shame.To all the new artists coming out today—-Please try to be original…. Long live Classic Rock, and r&b from 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s.
